I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. My parents immigrated from The Netherlands and raised me as a bilingual.
At my High school, I was the only Schoonderbeek in a graduating class of a 1000 students. It was always a fun challenge to help teachers and classmates with the pronunciation of my Dutch name.
I majored in Art at the University of California in Santa Cruz. Later on, I continued my studies at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Arnhem. During this time, many of my fellow art students wanted English conversation lessons from a native speaker. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and as a consequence obtained the professional CELTA certificate.
Since then I’ve been teaching English to a wide range of students from kids to professionals. I find it especially interesting to talk about all kinds of topics with my students as we practice the art of conversation in the English language.
